We/Or/Me

We/Or/Me is the musical alias of Bahhaj Taherzadeh, an Irish-born, Chicago-based songwriter. Sometimes other people are involved, sometimes they’re not. Bahhaj has been writing songs for many years. He first started performing them in front of people around 2002 under the somewhat forceful encouragement of Glen Hansard of the frames/swell season. Since then he has shared the stage with many fine warriors of the road, and has watched as his songs have gone on to live more adventurous lives than he has, appearing on TV and radio and whoring themselves around on the internet. The first We/Or/Me release was a 2003 CD-R EP called Simple Lines, which very few people have copies of. It is so rare, in fact, that not even Bahhaj has a copy anymore. In 2006 We/Or/Me were featured on the excellent Yeti 4 compilation, and in 2008 the Ghostwriter EP was released. In 2009 We/Or/Me started recording a covers record called Dust Jacket, Vol. 1, which was available at Yer Bird Records for a limited time. June 2011 saw the release of the first full-length We/Or/Me record, Sleeping City.

Andrew Malo

Andrew Malo usually tries to write country songs, but his indie capabilities keep him a healthy distance away from crossing over.  Concerned with the craft as much as the art of songwriting, his songs have, as Jon from shh-listen says, “true intimacy” and are “almost hypnotizing as they slowly unfold.”

Andrew always seems to find himself stuck in Chicago, resulting in his rambling heart finding solace on the highways of various songs - country, folk, solo piano, lullabies, and more.  Under the watchful eyes of refinement and sincerity, these songs develop and continue to aspire to new heights with each release in his growing discography.

Andrew Malo:

  • By What Happens (2008)
  • Wait For Miles (2011)
  • Songs From Bubbly Creek EP (Winter 2011/2012)

Ukiyo-ki:

  • Reflections on Hiroshige (2011)

The Dandelion Trust:

  • Glass Clipper (2003)
  • Untitled (?)

Angela Malo

Angela took all the art classes available in high school then studied fine art as a minor.  Because of her love of stories, she enjoyed completing a BA in history.  Currently Angela lives with her baby girl and husband in Chicago and compiles the substance she has collected every chance she gets.

Husayn Allmart

While he doesn’t consider himself an artist he is passionate about two things - social media and supporting artists. Whether it’s the amazing artists in the Alaska Tapes collective, artists that we admire or his 7 year-old daughter who illustrates fervid dinosaur alien abduction dramadies, he is dedicated to doing what he can to providing a platform for unleashing beauty and truth upon the world. He also just got a scooter and is exceedingly happy about this.

About

Not quite a record label. Not based in Alaska.

Alaska Tapes started as a fictitious record label for the band/artist We/Or/Me. It took its obscure and misleading name from some audiotapes that documented a series of talks given by the artist's father in Alaska in 1984.

It is now less a fictitious record label, and more an actual artist collective of sorts. It hopes to put out some records, put on some shows, and bring some people together. It will strive to create a supportive environment for creative expression and meaningful conversations. It will favor the word community over the word scene.

So far it involves the following people/artists:

Husayn Allmart, Minister of Communications
Andrew Malo, musical artist Angela Malo, visual artist We/Or/Me, musical artist

Liza Mitchell, photographer

Soon it will involve others.
