Andrew's Album Mentioned in WBEZ Article!
Our very own Andrew and his most recent EP, Songs from Bubbly Creek, were just mentioned in an article about the Chicago River and cultural resources for positive change on the WBEZ website. Speaking of efforts to re-reverse the river and its troubled history it mentions, “…the notorious Bubbly Creek (speaking of cultural resources check out local Andrew Malo’s ode to the notorious stew, the 2012 EP Songs from Bubbly Creek).”

Record Dept. Review of We/Or/Me's Latest!
The Record Dept. gave a great review of We/Or/Me’s latest album! The review says…
“A manuscript editor by day who often found himself awake in the middle of the night attending to his newborn twins, Taherzadeh channeled the exhaustion and struggle with his new identity as a father into Sleeping City. The beautiful collection features simple guitar and piano instrumentation with radiant harmonies. Standouts include opener “Across the Country” and “Our Broken Hearts.” – Written by JFelton
Don’t miss the upcoming We/Or/Me show at Heritage Bicycles General Store, Thursday, February 23 from 7-9pm.
One of Andrew’s great reflections on a series of Japanese wood block prints…
Repost of the first Ukiyo-ki installment - Another View of Suzukayama… Ukiyo-ki is a moniker for lo-fi instrumental reflections on various ukiyo-e, or wood block prints. The focus has been Hiroshige for now and will perhaps expand to other artists in the future…. the free download link :: http://soundcloud.com/ukiyo-ki/another-view-of-suzukayama

We’d like to welcome Liza Mitchell to the Alaska Tapes family. She’s an amazing photographer, specializing in nature, portraits and candid shots. Particularly moms and kids. The way she sees and captures the world is just excellent. You’ll see.
…Your love will be safe with me.

A meditation on a piece of art by Hiroshige from Andrew…
I finally got around to writing a new song. This one is called Quixote Thinks of Fuji based on the print Fukeiga by Hiroshige. This print caught my eye because I like the way Mount Fuji looks like it is an illusion. I remember seeing Mount Fuji from the train on the Tokaido line. It really is a sight to behold. Usually, those kind of things - famous landmarks and the like - are not as impressive as they are hyped up to be. Mount Fuji really was - I first saw it from behind a mountain and it is a perfect cone. Then you see the whole mountain and it’s shape is just perfect.
Anyways, I started writing the song and it had a very drunk feeling - which is my preferred style of writing and probably the one I feel most comfortable - where rhythm is not really that important, only flow and some things that can’t really be named. While I was writing, Don Quixote came to mind and I liked the idea of looking through his eyes to see Mount Fuji and that is how the song was completed..
